Phil Laak

Phil Laak was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1972 and now resides in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. One of the most recognizable people in the poker world, Laak, wearing his trademark sweatshirt and sunglasses, quickly became known as the 'Unabomber.' Phil started playing in 1999 but before 2003 he’d only entered eight tournaments, including three consecutive Main Events at the World Series of Poker. His appearances on the World Poker Tour have made him one of the most popular players on the circuit and have also helped him land many television gigs. At one time, he was the host of E! Hollywood Hold’em and he also appeared on GSN's Poker Royale, High Stakes Poker and NBC's Poker After Dark.

Although mostly a cash-game player, he does also have major tournament experience, notably a win at the 2004 World Poker Tour Invitational. He finished second in the 2005 $2,500 pot-limit hold’em World Series of Poker event. In 2006, he finished fifth in the Seneca World Poker Classic. Currently, Laak co-hosts a show called "I Bet on You" with his friend Antonio Esfandiari where they can be found betting on any and all things.

In 2005 Hachem defeated 5618 players to win the Main Event at the renowned World Series of Poker. His victory earned him a record-breaking $7.5 million dollars and forever cast him into the poker limelight. Today, Hachem still plays poker at a very high level. Despite winning the largest poker tournament in the world, Hachem invests a lot of time in online poker room tournaments. He currently endorses Poker Stars, having done so even before winning the 2005 WSOP. With over 100,000 raked hands, it’s not unlikely to find him at some of the high stake tables.
